Rice therapy is simply a self-care technique which easily reduces pain and swelling. It helps in fastening the process of healing the sprain or pain. By following simple four steps, you can easily get rid of your knee pain. Following RICE therapy in the initial stages may save you lots of money and time. If your injury or pain is beyond the power of RICE therapy, you will easily know it and you can always approach any knee replacement hospital in India.

REST

Resting your knee is very important to heal it faster. You need to stop or at least reduce your knee activity level for a day or two. If it is a must to perform some activity, you can always use hand stick or crutches to reduce stress on your knees. Resting also helps your knee from bruising further. Rest should be taken depending on the injury. Some injuries are recovered in days while some take weeks.

ICE

Ice is a true and perfect tool to ease pain and reduce swelling. Using an ice bag or cold pack for four to eight times in 20 minutes durations will definitely have an impact on the injury and the pain. Be sure you do not apply ice for longer periods as it may cause frostbite. You can also use a cloth or towel around the ice to avoid frost bites and freezing of the skin.

COMPRESSION

A compression bandage is usually used to reduce the swelling caused by the injury which is painful. Elastic wraps, ACE bandages, Air Casts, Splints, or any other compression bandages can be used to wrap around the injured area. This step can be taken as a personal choice for comfort. Make sure your knee is not strangled with the bandage as it may have serious consequences when blood does not reach your knee or feet.

ELEVATION

Elevation is simply raising the affected part or area to the height above your heart. It reduces throbbing pain and also prevents internal bleeding which if not controlled may lead to bruises. It is not a problem if you do not want to elevate your knee part daily until recovery but it is very important to elevate in on the first day to prevent further swelling and pain.
